'De Centrale’ Retail Park (Leeuwarden) – Friesland’s Regional Shopping Centre
In addition to residential construction, Kennemerland Beheer also operates in the field of integrated city-centre development. A good example of this is the De Centrale retail park in Leeuwarden (NL). The project started in 1991 with 12,000 m² (129,000 sq ft) of retail outlets. It included peripheral retail trading establishments (PRTEs) selling camping articles, kitchens, sanitation supplies, building materials and home accessories. Since then, the retail park has been extended by 21,000 m² (226,000 sq ft). Over the next few years, it will be extended by an additional 20,000 m² (215,000 sq ft). The total retail area will then cover some 53,000 m² (570,500 sq ft). This area will be split into 25,000 m² (269,000 sq ft) for PRTEs and 28,000 m² (301,500 sq ft) for large retail trading establishments (LRTEs). The layout and range of retail outlets is determined in cooperation with Leeuwarden city council. Kennemerland Beheer has kept the ‘De Centrale’ as an investment.

‘Saendelft’ Residential Development (Assendelft)
Work was started on the first of some 6,500 homes in and around the Dorpstraat area of Assendelft in 1997. These homes together form the new Saendelft neighbourhood within the district of Zaanstad. It is expected that the last home will be handed over in 2014. Kennemerland Beheer is responsible for approximately 1,100 of these homes through its subsidiary, Noorderweg BV. ‘Saendelft’ is a private public partnership (PPP). Urban planning for the Saendelft project involved close cooperation between a number of parties concerning various aspects of the project including land utilization and development of shared public areas.
